Prototype Information:
The SD70M was the DC equivalent to the popular SD70MAC.
The
SD70M holds the distinction of being the loco with
the largest single order ever placed
with GM. In 1999, the Union Pacific ordered
1,000 SD70M's. This is also the largest order given
in their history of UP. The SD70M model is known
worldwide for its high reliability, proven technology,
and
solid maintenance record.
The
SD70M is rated at 4,000 horsepower and currently
in production at EMD. Used primarily to haul have
loads over long distances ... commonly employed in
coal service. This version of the SD70M features
a wide cab and distinctive flared radiators.

motor with dual brass flywheels and new Shock
Absorber
mechanism.
